Fab roasted cauliflower | Cookbooklette winners

The other day I happened to catch a facebook post from Dreena Burton offering a link to the recipe for her almond-roasted cauliflower from her cookbook, "Let Them Eat Vegan."I don't know why I don't already own the book, but I don't, so I quickly followed the link and made the dish for dinner.

We love roasted vegetables at our house and enjoy them often —  cauliflower is a favorite. Dreena's simple addition of a couple of extra ingredients made a favorite food even more delicious. You should try it.

Zine winners
Callie posing with some of the entries after making her selections.

I made a slight change in my usual method of using a random number generator to select the recipients of the cooking zine — I hope you don't mind. I put the names on same-sized pieces of paper, placed the papers on the floor, and called Callie. She chose two winners at random — the first with her nose and the second with her paw. Then I made her pose near the papers, and she was concerned that she'd done something wrong. But I think she did a fine job choosing Food Feud and Radioactive vegan to win copies of the zine.

Thank you to everyone who entered. I wish I could send a copy to each of you. But, if you really want one, there might still be some available here. The winners have been notified and the prizes are on their way!

Dining advice needed
Any suggestions for restaurants in San Francisco and the surrounding area? Thanks!

  1. Dreena's recipes are all winners. Speaking of winners, I think Callie made the perfect assistant.

    1. Callie sure tried her best to just pick the winning names and not eat them.

  2. Dreena is a magician! First, she created the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever. Second, I love her healthful, whole food recipes that are not only delicious but also often ready in 30 minutes or way less. I made her ginger broccoli recently from her newest book to bring to a friend's house to share for dinner, and it was wonderful. Everyone really enjoyed it.

I bet that somewhere Vanna White is shaking in her high heels seeing how Callie so expertly handled your own living room game show. What a cutie pie!

Everybody raves about Gracias Madre in San Francisco. That will be my first destination the next time I visit. Otherwise, I always enjoy Cafe Gratitude and Millennium. I've never been very impressed with Herbivore, but I know some people like it a lot. I also had a bad experience at The Plant, where they served me chicken instead of tofu. I've heard that the same thing has happened to others, and so if you go there, be very clear about your order and inspect it before you take a bite. Can't wait to hear all about your trip!

    1. Callie has been practicing walking in her heels but isn't quite there yet.

I love Gracias Madre but my son didn't want to go there. Thank goodness he finally changed his mind and we had a great meal on our last night in San Francisco. We also went to Cafe Gratitude for the first time and had a wonderful lunch. On our last trip we went to Herbivore and it was just OK — my dish was bleh but my husband's was tasty. Thanks for the suggestions!

  3. Yum! Thank you for the link to the roasted cauliflower. Roasted veggies are one of my favorite things and cauliflower is my absolute favorite vegetable to roast. And mushrooms. And Brussels sprouts. Gah! I just love roasted veggies so much :-) I will file that recipe away and long for cooler days when I can roast veggies again in my apt without heating it up to unbearable insane temps.

Callie is adorable! She is so cute I will forgive her for not picking me ;-)

    1. I think you'll love the cauliflower. I hope it's not too hot to try it.

Callie regrets that she was only allowed to choose two names. Trust me on that.

  4. Aww! I am honored to have Callie pick me! Was I the nose or the paw?? I got the zine today, it looks great! Thanks so much.
I've never really tried any of Dreena's recipes but the cauliflower looks delicious. Roasted veggies usually are.

    1. I don't remember who got the nose and who got the paw. I was so focused on grabbing her picks before she got carried away that I can't recall. She did an admirable job in choosing someone so attuned to zines, though, and I cheered when I saw your name!

      The cauliflower is delish.

  5. Well darn, serves me right for getting so far behind on visiting your blog that I missed out on tossing my name into Callie's hat! What a lovely and able assistant she is (such a darling photo!), you should have more drawings just so Callie can pick the winners in her inimitable way. :-)

The cauliflower looks delicious! I love cauliflower every which way, and hope to try some of those cauliflower steaks that so many blogs were raving about earlier this spring.

    1. Well, what can I say? You just have to keep up so as not to miss the very rare giveaways on my blog. Sorry you didn't get to play but maybe next time. :) In any case, you should try the cauliflower recipe.

  6. Callie does look like she is sorry for inadvertently offending you! Or maybe she didn't think this gig involved work hours? Either way, she's just adorable; love those curls. Congrats, winners!

    1. Callie wanted to pick ALL the papers and might have been a little bit miffed she could only select two. I should have bought more zines.
