Platters are fun to put together, especially when you can combine homemade and store bought items so it doesn't take all day.<br /><br />It does look awfully pretty combined with deep colors, and it sucks up flavors so beautifully. Shellac used to be used extensively as a furniture finish before more modern finishes like polyurethane came along.
