Still here, but distracted ...

New Glarus Brewery, home of Spotted Cow beer
I'm away from our Seattle home and finding it hard to either blog or read blogs. I've hardly even been taking photos of anything —  although I went to the trouble of bringing my camera, I've barely used it.  (The photo above was taken with my phone.) I'll be back home again in August, and expect to be catching up on my reading and writing. Right now I'm enjoying  seeing people I only see once a year, and trying to get our Wisconsin house back together for our new renters. (More on the "joys" of renting a house, later. Seriously, is it really necessary to bend all the curtain rods into a "u" shape, or get mud on everything? Or pull the storm door off its hinges, or smash my  metal watering cans? Or, or, or ...)

  1. Sometimes a person just needs a break from writing for a while. Plus, when you get back to it, you'll have renewed vigor. Sorry to hear about the rental woes! After fixing and cleaning, I hope you'll still have time left to enjoy your favorite Wisconsinites and places! :)

    1. I should be sorting books right now but writing responses is so much more appealing! We're definitely enjoying time with friends, and visiting places we enjoy, but fixing and cleaning is at the top of the list.

ps, thanks for the award! (See, I do read a little.)

    2. I'm glad you're at least getting some time for fun stuff while you're there. You're welcome for the award! It's much deserved! :)

  2. I've been distracted lately, too, and completely understand. :)

We used to rent the upstairs of our old house (it was a two family). It was awful. I feel your frustration!

    1. Oh, and I meant to mention that New Glarus is one of Mike's favorite beer brands.

    2. Being a landlord is harder than I thought.

Spotted Cow is my favorite, though I'm not really much of a beer drinker. Have you ever toured the brewery? We did the tasting after our tour, and out of four beers I tried, I only liked two, but I can't remember what the second one was.

    4. Spotted Cow is one of Mike's favorites, too. We've never toured the brewery, but that might be a future day trip. I'm not a beer drinker but Mike would love that. :)

  4. I am sorry the renters caused so many problems! It must be hard to see your house/stuff treated so poorly. And then to have to clean it all up, too. Ugh. Hopefully it is a little cooler and less humid in WI than it is in MN right now...or at least I hope you are lucky enough to have AC! And if you do, do you mind if I come and visit for the rest of the summer, lol?!?

    1. We only have AC in the bedroom, but we haven't turned it on for several days. It's been cooling down at night, though tonight feels a little warmer. When we first got here it was ghastly hot and we were very sluggish about working on the house, but lately it's been OK. I like heat as long as it's not too humid, and I'm not looking forward to going back to cool and cloudy weather.

    2. It sounds like you are not as humid there in WI as we are here--I am glad. It has been super humid and muggy here lately. It is gross!

Enjoy your time in WI and I will look forward to your posts when you return to WA!

    1. I'm really looking forward to it, especially considering how many members of your family will be there!

  6. We all go through seasons and need a chance to do what needs to be done. Sorry about the house. As a former renter it would *never* have occurred to me to do things like that!

    1. I think unsupervised children may have had some thing to do with damages. Everyday we find something new. Oh well.

  7. You're a better woman than I; I barely like people I know in my house! Enjoy the rest of your time away :-)

    1. HA! We really have no choice, and it's certainly getting easier to think about selling.

  8. Whenever I'm away from home, I do that too - there's just too much going on around me to focus on writing or reading. Bummer on your house, hopefully the new renters are better. Have a great time visit friends and places. :-)

    1. it's inside the New Glarus brewery. They're brewing beer in there!

Yeah the house is a bummer, and it's even worse since the electricians are removing the knob and tube wiring and making 4" holes in the walls. But the porch screens are fixed and the fence posts are back up!

  11. Ryan's family went to Door County this summer for vacay and wanted us to come - but we were too nervous to head that far in the car with Baby who screams merely going to the grocery store. They enjoyed the trip, though. Safe travels if you're not back yet!

  12. Better days ahead for car traveling, I'm sure. I assume the little dude didn't mind the train. :) We've had some pleasant family vacations in Door County — it's quiet and peaceful there.
