What will your cat wear for Halloween?

This is not my cat, but I know him, and Percy is definitely the kind of cat who would allow his people to dress him this way. Perhaps he's a Packers fan, and requested the outfit!

In any case, he's decked out and ready for trick-or-treating cats to show up at his apartment. He's giving out catnip — and I think it's organic catnip. Meowhaha.

But what will we give to the little human trick-or-treaters who come to our house, assuming anyone shows up in the rain?

Well, we have cute little bags of pretzels.

And lollipops. As I pointed out to my husband, who bought all this stuff because he still remembers the hoards of kids who came to the door in Madison, "I think we still have some of those lollipops left from last year." Which I should go find and toss. Anyone who shows up on Halloween will get a big handful of pretzels or this year's lollipops — or both!

Happy Halloween!

To everyone who has suffered loss during the storm, I send condolences. I can't imagine what you have been through, and I hope the stress will ease up soon. So sorry for your losses. I grew up on the East Coast, and it's especially painful to see all the suffering in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York.

  1. I was planning on picking up a bag of those exact lollipops today! Because we don't have sidewalks on our street, I'm doubting we'll get many, if any, trick-or-treaters. Any that do show up will get little toy rubber snakes & lollipops.

    1. We have sidewalks, but it doesn't seem to matter. Our rental house was scary in the dark, so I didn't think we'd get a lot of trick-or-treaters, but this house isn't scary, and still not many kids. Maybe people don't like walking around in the rain? I like the idea of rubber snakes!

  2. Aww, kitty! He really doesn't look very displeased at all!

Mr. Wing-It likes those lollies! I believe the watermelon flavor is his favorite. Happy candy and pretzel giving! :)

    1. Percy is a very accommodating cat.
Watermelon is a good flavor — I'm sure I'll get to eat many of the lollies after tonight. Miss E is very fond of them too.

    1. Percy is a very mellow young cat and has more patience than most cats I've known. Toothbrushes and toothpaste? Seems useful but makes my treats look really decadent! :D

  4. happy halloween, and happy mofo finale! I love the mini-pretzels. What a great giveaway idea. I got mini boxes of Dots candy. Growing up, my mom didn't have any sweettooth, and always gave out things like spider rings and peanuts in the shell. As a result, I feel ethically compelled to give out ACTUAL candy every year. Ha ha!

    1. I used to give out boxes of raisins. The little kids (and parents) liked them but the older kids weren't too happy. Everyone seems to like the pretzels and lollipops so I think it's a good compromise between bad candy and too-healthy. I'm sure they'd all prefer Dots, though.

  5. I have the same pretzels for my crowd! And a few larabar minis. Hope they don't think it's too healthy. I couldn't get those lollypops this year because I end up eating all of them if they don't get taken. Then get major sugar crashes.

    1. Well, could be worse — they could be whole wheat pretzels. We can't always find the pretzels but whenever we give them out, the kids seem to like them. Maybe you'll be lucky and have the Larabars left.

    1. Lucky co-workers! We had nine trick-or-treaters show up, which is up from last year's three! Lots of treats left over, though.

  7. My goodness, if I tried to dress my Bossa Nova in a Halloween outfit I would be shredded up like the innards of a pumpkin. Percy is a real sport. So nice that you gave out healthy snacks.

    1. Bossa Nova may be mor normal than Percy, who will suffer just about any indignity. He's smart, but surprisingly docile. Maybe we give out healthy snacks because we know so many of them will be left over. :)

  8. Hey look the kitty has a G for GiGi on his Halloween hat. Great MoFoing with you.
All the loss back east is breaking my hert. Friends and family have lost so much :(
    Can I have a lolly?

    1. Um ... yes ... G for GiGi. Mofo was fun thanks to crazy posters like yourself. I believe I was fairly serious this year, no joking around like last year. Perhaps next year I'll try to be more fun.

The storm was a terrible blow to the East Coast. So sad when people suffer so much loss. I'm grateful my East Coast family came out unscathed.

  9. Props for giving out healthy snacks that are still super tasty. We never get any trick or treaters where I live - I have no excuse to get any treats any more!

    1. The trick is to give out relatively healthy snacks that don't scream "HEALTHY". The pretzels, when you can find the little packs, are a nice compromise. We had nine kids come — lots of leftovers!

  10. That is hilarious. Might even make me like cats! ;-) And since I'm after the fact, dying to know how many kiddles did show up in the rain??

    1. Nine costumed kiddies showed up — that leaves a lot of unclaimed lollipops and pretzels. Wonder what will happen to them.

  11. Percy is one patient cat! Either that or he'd been secretly indulging in the catnip he was supposed to be handing out (exactly what my mother would always do with the Halloween candy that was meant for the Trick-or-Treaters! Her own fault for always buying her favorite kind of candy!) The Packer's uniform is a hoot - but Percy should really back a winning team like the Broncos. ;-)~

The mini pretzels are a brilliant idea! I must look for those next year! I felt good about handing out the Junior Chocolate Crisp Bumblebars and Panda Licorice bars, but given the swarm of locusts that descended on us, that's going to be cost-prohibitive. And I didn't like having to supplement our handouts with corn-syrup laden candy. Absolutely love the pretzels idea - I'd thought of non-candy items like stickers, but salty snacks never occurred to me!

The devastation back east is just mind-blogging, and it's just as bad in places like Haiti and Cuba (with their far-fewer resources to help them recover!) Horrible to contemplate that this sort of thing is probably "the new normal."

    1. Percy is a very sweet boy. His cohort, Mable, would never allow herself to be dressed up. The pretzels are hard to find — sometimes we find them at whole foods and sometimes at target and sometimes nowhere! They do make a good treat though. Are there that many kids in your neighborhood or do they come from other neighborhoods? I can remember years when we had to supplement from our own kids' treat bags!

  12. There are a few kids in this neighborhood, but the Hungry Halloween Hoards show up from all over town by the Suburban-full! Though some did come on their bikes. I found those mini-pretzels on Amazon.com, but who knows if they'll have them next year - and of course, it would be cheaper to get them locally. Nearest Target is in Billings, but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

  13. Aw, Percy looks so cute! I thought of buying Cleopatra an outfit, but then I knew my daughters and their pups would be so jealous!
